Cécilia Lusven, textile artist and hand weaver based in San Francisco.
Positioned between painting and textile, my textured wall hanging elevate discarded material into contemplative abstract landscape.
My practice uses weaving to construct continuous surfaces from discarded materials or scraps of leather, transformed through repetitive acts of hand-cutting, hand-weaving, and hand-stitching.
Guided by the constraints of these materials, I develop subtle color gradients and atmospheric compositions that shift between abstraction and landscape. From a distance, the works appear painterly; up close, they reveal intricate textures built thread by thread.
My work seeks to bring awareness to the dedication, skill, and care embedded in textile making. By reworking reclaimed materials, I encourage reflection on our interactions with both our environment and one another, inviting a slower and more attentive way of looking.
