Cécilia Lusven, textile artist and weaver based in San Francisco.

My work seeks to highlight the commitment inherent to the weaving work. By painstakingly inserting all of the fringes one by one, it reveals the labor behind each thread coiled, warped, beamed, threaded, sleyed, tensed then woven. The textile practice has been trivialized by the industrialisation and with my weavings I seek to bring together the art and the common.

I use discarded materials or scrap of leathers to echo this devalued textile practice. Quite simply, I hand cut materials intended for the trash and I hand weave them with dead stock of shoe making or book binding linen threads. I like to believe that the know-how that brings these materials together is what makes them more beautiful.
